Carrying some of the winter survival basics will make you safer while traveling into the wilderness during the winter season. Winter is wonderful but also can be harsh or dangerous. What all are your tips for a traveler in winter time.

You would be in need of a shelter that will turn away with the wind and keep the rain and snow out. Pick a site that is dry and has little snow around, often look for a higher ground, with lots of trees which would get you a relief from direct winds.

Basic physiological needs, meaning food, water, shelter, and clothing, are probably all I would focus on during winter months.
Anything else would have to be accomplished during warmer weather.
