I don't think it's expensive indeed, the energizer products lasts long, so its absolutely worth spending money on it. The shake lights are a masterpiece and it's best source is from china.

This past summer I went to Meijer when we had a blackout and purchased two wind up lights for $14 each. They are made by Weather Channel and they look like a lantern. I can't remember but I think the directions said for every minute of winding you get something like 5 minutes of light.

I bought all of my kids the shake flashlights for Christmas last year and I know that two of them are broken. They aren't really durable, but I didn't spend a fortune on them either. I think that the crank lights from energizer are tougher.
