I wonder whether we could eat wild seeds or fruits during survival. Some say they can be poisonous, while others say it can be medicinal and edible.
Is there any way to figure out which wild fruits and seeds are edible and which are not. Have you ever eaten wild fruits while on a survival trip.

There are variety of wild fruits and seeds outdoor. Before planning for a wilderness trip, make sure that you are aware of plant life of the place you're going to visit. There's no room for experimentation so eat only the plants that you know.

Of course I have eaten wild fruits and nuts including, Acorns (with tannin leeched out) walnuts, blueberries, checker berries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, elder berries, fiddle heads. black berries, rhubarb and Sumac. There are a lot of field guides that will tell you what is safe and what is unsafe in your area. NEVER eat anything unless you are sure. There are certain wild foods that are very poisionous.

You would probably be amazed with how many different forms of berries, seeds and plant life out there that you could actually survive on. Like was previously stated, there are books available that show you what is safe to consume and what to stay away from. It is never a bad idea to have one of these on hand.

Yeah, there are many berries out there in the wilderness that are perfectly edible.
Acorns taste better dried and ripe though, the green ones are the funniest tasting things...

Rasberries are really good, hopefully you run into those, or Blackberries. You could fill up a bag with them, and that would be a nice snack, a nice organic snack.

Just so you are aware of which berries are poisonous, you will be fine eating wild seeds and fruits. You can even eat clovers. I use to babysit a boy whose mother was big into what things you can eat that grow outside. He would take us in the feild by my house and show us what was good to eat and what to stay away from.

Depending on your area, there can be quite a few good plants out there. However, some areas have more poisonous than non-poisonous plants. I've thought about this, but the only wild plant that I eat is dandylions. Be careful where you harvest too- some people or counties spray the sides of roads and parks with weed killer- you don't want to accidentally eat that.

Ideally you would research the local plants and find out what is edible. If you don't know and are stuck out in the wild and starving, there are acouple of methods for finding out if something is edible or not. Method two is best used when supplies are still ubundant and you are mearly planning ahead.
First is the bat test: If you are somewhere where fruit eating bats are, humans can safely eat pretty much anything they can eat. On the other hand, don't use birds as a guide, they regularly eat fruits and seeds that are poisonus to humans.
Second, the long hall test: This one takes some time and has many stages before you actually eat anything. Once you find a plant you think might be edible, or want to try but are unsure of, begin the test.
1.) touch it to your skin. wait 24 or more hours. if no skin irritation, move to next test. 2.)rub it against your skin virgriously. wait 24 or more hours. If no skin irritation, move to next test. 3.)touch to lips. wait 24 hours or more. if no tingling or numbness occures at anytime, move to next step. 4.)place small sample in mouth for one minute, remove. wait 24 or more hours. if not numbness, tingling or nausia occur, move to next step. 5.) chew small peice for one minute, spit out rinsing mouth out with water. wait 24 or more hours. if no ill or unusual effects, move to next step. 6.)Sample small peice and swallow. Wait 24 or more hours. if no ill or unusual effect, move to next step. 7.)make very small meal out of it. wait 24 or more hours. if no ill or unusual effects, plant part should be edible.
It is very important to note that you must repreform this test for diiffernt parts of the same plant, such as leaves, fruit, stalks, roots, ect.. Some plants have both edible and poisonius parts.
