I've been looking online for information on what items should be in a good first aid kit. I've checked what seems like a 1,000 sites only to get the same amount of answers. On top of that I'm beginning to feel like I need to be an EMT to understand the list of stuff in those kits. One thing I have found is a lot of kits are little more than bandages, and sterilization agents. I would also love to have the items listed in laymens terms, and not have to learn medicalese to understand stuff. I will be looking though the posts here for more info, but if anyone has any links of lists to share, that is why I started this thread. Here is what I am looking for.

First Aid Kits for:
BOB - Compact, effective, & efficient.
Vehicle - Moderate sized, effective, & efficient.
Home - As effective and efficient as possible. Space is of course less of an issue because it won't be moved around a whole lot.
Camping - Moderate sized for camping, effective, and efficient.

One thing I have found is a lot of kits are little more than bandages, and sterilization agents.

I find that it is better to create your own FAK (first aid kit) than to purchase a premade commercial one. It is a bit more expensive, but sometimes the quality of goods in the commercial ones are lacking and I like to be confident in my gear so making my own kit helps me feel secure that i have good gear and can rely on it if needed. That said, here are some things that I keep in my FAK:

Keep in mind that my bugout FAK is a duffle bag so I have alot of space to use.

band aids - all shapes and sizes
gauze pads - 3x3 and 4x4 as many as you can get
rolled gauze
antibiotic ointment (a triple antibiotic ointment like neosporin is best)
a bottle of hydrogen peroxide
a bottle of rubbing alcohol
various over the counter meds (tylenol, advil, excederin, benadryl, etc)
anti itch and sting lotions like cortizone, calamyn lotion, etc
antacid tablets
a small set of surgical tools
ammonia inhalents
bug spray
sun screen lotion
duct tape

This is what I come up with off the top of my head. Hope this is a good start for you.

The Admin does a good job of keeping this site spam free. there is also a little button on the bottom right of any post that you can click to report the post which sometimes will speed up the process of getting it removed.

As for a first aid kit, I would also include a snake bite kit and some packets of those emergency drinking water.

Online wholesalers offer discounted first aid kits for families, cars, sports, industry, or pets. Some wholesalers provide a free first aid kit to costumers who spend enough money on the wholesalers other products. Check about supplies at companies who sell to medical personnel to avoid retail costs.
