Within the last 7 days:

 • Bought some kerosene for our back-up heater (still looking for an economical source of it, though)
 • Picked up 25lbs. of salt
 • Stocked up on plastic trash bags
 • Stocked up on hygiene products
 • Stocked up on dish soap
 • Researched primitive water purification methods (e.g. using multi-layered media, such as charcoal, grass, sand, etc., in a container)
 • Worked on my new preparedness resource website
 • Bought copper rounds
 • Have begun the multi-day process of cleaning, organizing and inventorying my preparedness supplies in the basement
 • Built some new storage shelves

...just to name a few.

Got a new bag for my BOB. Although I love my ALICE pack, I thought I'd experiment with the new Maxpedition Doppelduffel, which I got on sale as part of a kit from L.A. Police Gear. The Doppelduffel can be carried as a duffel bag or worn as a backpack. It came with two different sizes of Maxpedition Cuboid cases. I made the smaller one into an extensive first aid kit, which is now in the BOB. I also picked up a case of the new style of MREs, three of which are now in the BOB. I also got a pair of Blackhawk Tourniquet Khaki pants, which are also now in the BOB.

Still working on refining my kit list of stuff, and still have a few things to put into it, but it's coming along nicely.

I've been getting back to my preps lately...neglected them for a bit while my attention had to be focused elsewhere...seems everyone is focused elsewhere too. Where's all the forum activity? ;)

Anyway, things I've done in the last week:

 • Obtained ingredients for DIY laundry soap
 • Packaged my 40 lbs of rice in mylar w/oxygen absorbers in 5 gallon buckets with gamma seals
 • Obtained a metal bucket opener/gas valve combination wrench
 • Finally filled some of my water barrels (need to fill the rest...they were used, so cleaning them has been a chore)
 • Purchased more canned goods
 • Started on a budget plan with Shelf Reliance Foods
 • Organized some of my foods storage
 • Finally got an emergency hand-crank radio (Eton FRS-600)
 • Refreshed my emergency fuel supply
 • Worked on my new website about urban preparedness

We keep our freezer stocked and are investing in seeds.

The seeds are probably more for long term purposes but one never knows when an emergency will become a lifestyle.

My husband has been looking into methods of storing seeds. For now, he's keeping them in envelopes. He's been looking at what seeds last longest. So far, he's got dwarf sunflower, citrus, beans, peppers, and a few others.

He grew some of the dwarf sunflowers this summer and found out he has to put gauze around the seed heads when the flowers begin to wilt. If he didn't, then the birds got all the seeds. The seeds were wonderful, btw.

I see many people are preparing for a disaster with the "shelter in place" mentality. This website brings to light what you may not have thought of but absolutely need to.

http://basecamp-expeditions.com/ or check out the video on youtube to give you an idea
