I was in my kid's school last Monday. I read all the posters and announcements about earthquake preparation.

I have been keeping a close eye on the current outbreak of Swine Flu in Mexico and Western US. The CDC seems to have elevated concerned about this particular strain. I have stocked extra water and added some food to the inventory. I have also purchased over the counter Flu medicines just in case there is a run on the pharmacies. I also picked up some surgical face masks for my first aid supply. Mexico City is virtually shut down. It could lead to a "shelter in place" situation for dense populated area of the US if this strain begins to spread.

Recently I bought more ammunition to stock up on it just in case. People are buying ammunition left and right, its hard for stores to keep it on their shelves. I also bought a new NOAA Weather Radio which I think is related to survival.

I've been breaking in my Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2 in-the-waistband (IWB) holster for my Glock 19. Today UPS brought my IWB cartridge holster. Oops, wrong model! I needed one for polymer magazines. I figured I'd return it but then decided to hold onto it since it should fit my Ruger SR9's metal magazines. I simply re-ordered, the correct model this time.
Another recent focus has been on preparing a backup bug-out-bag (BOB) that rides on the floor of my van between driver's and passenger's seat. I have it chained to the seat as well as to my booster battery, my 12-volt air compressor, and my belt pouch. I can free it within 6 seconds.
Awhile back I transferred about a person-year's food supply to my bug-out location (BOL) in case I have to flee there with little warning.

This past weekend I filled up my lanterns. Mostly getting ready for campin season, but guess you could call it emergency preparation as well.

I've been 'recycling' my used plastic gallon jugs, washing them out and putting tap water in them. I have a shelf in my garage that has my canned/nonparishable foods, tons of plastic gallon jugs of water, as well as batteries, a portable tv/weather radio/etc (are the tvs going to be good still with the whole digital conversion going on?), first aid kits, etc. I usually start about now getting supplies prepped for Hurricane season here in South Florida. So many people wait until the last minute to buy supplies, so of course the stores are always out of them. How long is the water good for? I have been marking the dates on my jugs, and I figure that anything that is past the cut off date for drinkability, I can use that water for other things, or wash out the plastic jugs and put fresh water in them. Using the old water of course for watering my plants, etc.

I picked up a few extra ALICE packs to keep on hand. Found a great deal on them online. Only $15.88 from http://west.loadup.com/military/surplus/330.html?id=4eqBaUqC. I also picked up a nice entrenching tool from the same site (see my post on that tool in the survival gear section).

While vacationing in Ohio this past week, I stopped by Lehman's Hardware and picked up another Kirkman lantern and some extra wicks and lamp fuel.
