The Safe Bedside Table breaks apart into a bat and a shield for the rapid bludgeoning of a home invader. Yeah, okay, not bad, but a bit unnecessary: I deal with my home invaders (and, occasionally, groggily forgotten houseguests) by smashing cheap Ikea bedside tables over the backs of their heads, then crucifying them to the floor with the splinters until the police can arrive. Although I guess this is a bit better for fending off a zombie attack.

That's a pretty ingenious design. A bit extreme? Perhaps, but would it provide peace of mind to someone? Just maybe.

Something tells me that the element of surprise that the intruder would experience might be just as effective a weapon as the table itself. It's like walking into a transformer movie.

Nice innovative thought. However you may not get a quick rapid response at the times you needed much. I would better carry a gun or something which are lighter and much easier to handle.

I grew up with a rifle next to the bed, on the wall or next to you. I also grew up with a baseball bat.
The thing about a baseball bat is you have to be willing to use it. And one with a few nails stuck in it works well.
I am contemplating a projectile taser.

Man, what will they come up with next. My mother used to keep a night stick under her bed.

Now this is just comical! Beating them with an Ikea table and splinters until the police arrive. Priceless.

I've always had a baseball bat next to the bed. That is it. Never had to use it though.
