Wow, great resource, I've read it with great interest. I must admit, most of those myths I believed to be real until I read this. Silly me.

I thought the same with the water myth, personally. I still won't mind boiling for three minutes, just to be safe.

Do people really believe this stuff?

Yep, lighters are nice, a fire starter that givesyou a big old spark when you scrape it with the back of your knife is good too. I'm for multilple fire starting methonds and NONE of them are those damned waterproof matches.

Does ANYONE read the scout manual anymore?

I'm not a fan of those "waterproof matches" at all. A swedish firesteel or blastmatch is the way to go. No fuel to run out of and works in any weather. I can't recommend them enough.
