New to the forum here and wanted to ask my first question (of many, I'm sure).
I'm just wondering what all of you would suggest as a good bag/pack to use to make a bug out bag. I'm not looking for the contents but just the pack itself. What do you all use for your BOBs?

I use a military bone-stock ALICE pack. Found it one on ebay for $33 shipped. The guy there specializes in reconditioning surplus packs and assembling good quality systems. There are many other options, depending on your preferences, and how much you want to spend. A lot depends on how much gear you want to carry. My BOB is much more than just a 72-hour pack. I could use it for much longer if needed, since I carry stuff to help me acquire additional food/water. Some folks can equip a 72-hour kit in a book bag sized pack or smaller. Others, like me, opt for the larger pack. Climate, location and your operational plan will dictate what you plan on carrying, which will then dictate the size pack you need. If money is no object, and you don't want to carry something as large as an ALICE pack, the Maxpedition Vulture-2 is about the most rugged rucksack I've ever used.

Like Kain said, I carry the means to gather food and water with me and I keep room for anything I may gather or forage during an emergency. I like having having extra room in case it is needed.
