I have been filling out my list of things I believe will be useful when the economic collapse happens. I have been looking at several types of survival candles and wondered if anyone had any experience with Colgans, Nuwick, and others. I also see candles in a can with several wicks and don't quite understand how the multiple or replaceable wicks work. I also don't understand the advantages or bee's wax or tallow. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I don't use survival candles per se. My wife loves candles so we keep a good supply of candles around the house. She buys them in bunches when they are on sale. When they burn out, I take the remaining wax and put it in a box. I buy spools of candle wax at a local hobby supply store, and when I have a bunch of wax I make candles myself.
We don't just rely on candles either. I have a Coleman lantern that runs on Coleman fuel. I have a second lantern that runs on propane, that I have a mast that hooks up to a 20# tank like you use on a grill. I also have an electric lantern that has a wind up generator that puts off good light. The last items are several different flash lights. I keep 2 sets or rechargeable batteries for each flashlight that I recharge with a portable solar charger, along with several sets of lithium batteries for each.
Candles are good to have, but I do not rely on one type of light source.

I'm glad someone posted this.
I have been procrastinating when it comes to candles and have meant to start making my own for some time now.
I think this summer will be the perfect time for me to start some serious production to help us avoid using so much electricity next winter.
I can use the "mess up" candles as the emergency stash!

I started stocking up on candles about four months ago, just seemed like a good idea. I buy boxes of six each 6" standard emergency candles for a buck each at the (you guessed it) dollar store
