I was looking into some water purification option and came accross the Steripen. I like the idea of it because it's smaller than the filtration systems. Has anyone had any experience with the steripen? Is it reliable?

yikes, I feel like I'm stuck in the dark ages, I still rely on water purification tablets or a distiller... I looked up info about this steripen though, it sounds too good to be true almost.

I havent used it myself.
But have seen lots of tourists use that when travelling to asia or africa.
and it seems it works well !

I wish I had had this when I was in Pakistan last month.. I boiled my water for the first two weeks then just said "to heck with it" and just drank the water anyway.. Yeah I'm pretty stupid.. Also pretty lucky. No parasites so far. I'm going to get this for sure though, I figure it's gotta be worth a try.

I am thinking about getting one of these for my bug out bag. It is a great idea.

I would not use and the WHO uses it only where there are no parasites present.
It doe not kill all bacteria, viral or protozoa and leaves parasites.
Personally its a waste. If your going to invest in a unit choose ne that kills Typhus, cholera nd parasites like schitsomiasis.

Thanks for the info JD! I'm not as careful as I should be sometimes, so the last thing I need is a false sense of security.

Has anyone tried the Steripen UV light/water purification, I would say it's a fascinating gadget ,It sounds too good to be true: makes tap water safe to drink with the use of UV light.

Yep I agree with you Shawn, Steripen is the only portable water purifier that uses ultraviolet (UV) light to destroy waterborne microbes.

Steripen is a useful equipment, It is eventually very handy and we can use it instantly. I have made some research about this, and going to buy one soon.
