Anyone here have any experience with a spinning wheel? Right now I'm in a town, but I'm looking to move in the not so distant future and I'd like to have a few alpaca and sheep and I want to learn how to spin yarn. How easy is it to learn?

OH how wonderful. My daughter wants an alpaca or two also. She has been looking at spinning wheels. She is MAD KNITTER. and she wants to spin her own. Hubby can build her a drop spindle for spinning wool or a wheel. Check out Foxfire Books on building a spinning wheel. We are startingw ith drop spindles first to see how it goes.
Do you knit, weave or crochet at all?

The thing we just discovered about spinning is the wheel speed. to fast and the yarn pulls and will break and have thin spots, too slow and it becomes more of a slub. there are plans on the web for all sorts. http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~flip/plans.htmljulie
