I bet most people dream of getting into Urban Homesteading, but never take steps to change their lifestyle. First, they might have storage issues, next, they might not have the money to get solar panels and buy small animals to fit the average backyard space in an urban environment.

If you were going to go off grid and live a self sufficient lifestyle, what would you do first?

About how long do you think it would take to become completely self sufficient and go completely off grid?

We can all be off the grid in about six minutes if the SHTF! But otherwise, probably could be done in a year if you were aggressive about it. Not in the size house I have though, so I'd have to get a smaller one to start with, maybe live someplace w/ more sunlight and warmer winters, too. Get a pellet stove, that'd be a good start.

we found out that in our area, if you generate power you ahve to sell that power back to teh power company and you will still get abill everymonth. This state considers you a power producer.
They are supposed ot be working towards stopping that, but TVA really wants to keep it.
