I just wanted to let everyone know that we have implemented some additional measures to combat the increased spam that we have gotten be inundated with. I expect that we will see a a drasttic reduction in spam posts going forward.

Please continue to use the "report post" button if you come across a junk post.

Also, thanks for your continued use of this forum. Things have been rather slow, but I'm hoping that the conversations spark up again.

It really has been worse the last few weeks. Thanks for the ongoing effort to filter it out.

Thanks, Chaz. I know from personal experience that it can be tough to combat spammers. With real, human spammers becoming more the norm, it seems we're back to the old method of manually deleting the accounts & corresponding posts. Gotta be a better way!

Case in point.

Holy cow! I just did a search of registered members...we have 1257 registered members. Since most of them have never posted, or only posted once, I'm guessing most they are nearly all spam accounts.

Yeah, I just went through and deleted over 700 user accounts (accounts that had never posted, or logged in after they registered). I also banned several IP addresses where the bulk of the Russian spam was coming from. I'm hoping that I can get this junk under control as it is terrible.

Thanks for everyone's patience as we fight this!

Great job on removing the spammers! Cleaned up the forums nicely. What version of phpBB are you running? Looks like about 29 new accounts have signed up since you cleaned out the last batch. What I don't understand is how spammers can think that spamming is a productive use of their time, especially if it's not a bot doing it. How many sales do they think spamming gets them? How much malware do they think they can install by spamming? It's ludicrous!

Nice job. I haven't seen a spam post here in a few days now. Kudos to your efforts.

Looks like over 1000 spam accounts since the last round of cleaning...not a lot of activity going on right now either. Hope we're not dissolving! I am making it a point to stir up more discussion and be more involved.
