On October 21, 2010 at 10:21 a.m. Pacific time, millions of people will participate in a state-wide earthquake drill called the Great California Shake Out. Over 7 million people have already registered. See here for more details:

I think more states should run preparation tests like this. Not necessarily earthquake prep tests but tests geared towards whatever type of disasters could affect the local region.
