Hi

I am new to this forum and new at survival planning. I want to plan for the unexpected. There seem to be more risks than ever, but planning is best done while not paniced. So, I thought I would get started and plan to make what I do useful in any circumstance by rotating this into my current lifestyle as much as possible. I think it can actually be a sound approach to a more frugal lifestyle with enhanced peace of mind, while continuing to count my blessings.

I am still putting together my 72 hour backpack and beginning the process of storage of food, water, medical supplies etc.

I recently got my gun license and found someone willing to take me out to shoot and teach me a little of fire arm safety. (new at this too).
Having some difficulty buying ammo and I can't seem to find a conversion kit to allow for conversion to a 22 caliber for cheap practice.
I like the idea of the converter to allow for the practice with the same feel of the gun (other than the recoil). Any suggestions for buying ammo?

Please, provide any advice, especially in areas or items which might be missed by a novice like me (in getting started). Any recommendations of good web sites for purchases and ideas and/or other books which would be helpful? Open to ideas.

I have decided to build gradually to avoid mistakes and have a good rotation built in over time for perishables.

I am trying to do each thing by rules of three.

Heat: Matches, Flint, lighter - pyronoid wood/charcoal stove and propane stove.

Shelter: Basement, Tent, Tarps, sleeping bads, (space blanket in cars).

Water: Stored water, Purification tablets and stored bleach, Lake near house and transport of water plan, and possibly a shallow well with pump (I am considering this and would appreciate any advise on this).

Food: Storage of canned foods, pellet gun, traps and snares, fishing gear and nets. Gardening seeds.

Medical: Surgical masks, first aid kit, Vitamins, Pain killers, Sterilization items. (What else do I need?)

If Lost or stranded: Cell phone with car charger, Cumpass, whistle, space blanket, lighter, poncho and first aid kit in cars.

What am I failing to do?

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you've got a nice start to your preps. Check out the thread on survival kits. I found that section helpful for planing my own stockpiling (since a bug out bag is really just a condensed version of what you need to survive). Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
