Very nice.........but.........one very important item would be a "HOT GLUE STICK", with it you can fix a whole bunch of stuff, like......pants, tent, sleeping bag, shoes, fishing gear, air matress and on and on and on.

Doesn't a hot glue gun run off of mains voltage? Are there any battery powered ones?

Cspace, yes .......but all you need is a lighter or anything that produces heat......even a hot piece of steel or a piece of wood from the fire........anything hot will melt it.
About 10 minutes ago I used it to fix my glasses, one of the legs came off.

cmlesq.....I have modified my bug out bag based on your good info. I also purchased a used Sears car top carrier on Craigs list for $25. It holds my bug out bag, three days water, food, sleeping bags, tent and other items for a hasty evac. I can have it secured on the top of my suv in three minutes.

Wow I'm beginning to learn about survival here. I haven't tried hiking, camping or trekking so I don't know what I should bring and what to expect. Thanks for this!

Oven Bag . . . makes a great alternative container.
That's the only thing I can see to add here.

I find it very interesting what different people deem their top ten. What does bug me is the number of firearms in inapropiate calibers for SURVIVAL! Hit a squirrel witha 40sw and you don't have much left! I have vaporized squirrel with a 9mm jhp. That doesn't put food in the pot. A good .22lr pistol (target variety) will put food in the pot and can still be used for defense, plus you can carry way more .22lr ammo! Perhaps some priorities should be set for survival (goals if you will) then based on those goals a list of top ten items could be made. Goals 1: Water, carry, procurement and potability 2: Shelter 3: Food/ food procurement 4: Fire 5: Travel, going from where you are to point X 6; Signaling 7: Health and Hygene
