I was curious about these knives and since they're relatively inexpensive, I picked up two from this site: http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html. Several emails back and forth with the owner before the purchase (hell, there were many options and i was curious about some sizing issues and what differences there were between relatively similar knives). Great communication and quick shipping.

I've got some heavy duty knives in my collection, so I wanted to get something a little more stripped down...just a basic utility fixed blade...I couldn't decide between two knives, so I got them both...

I got the #1 red handled knife as well as the #137 with the hot wax treated sheath.

A couple of notes on both:

#1 nice feel in the hand and the sheath is nice given it's plastic. I was a little leery about the plastic sheath, but it is nicer than expected. The sheath holds the knife well. Knife seems pretty durable and for $10.50 who can complain?

#137 - is pretty much the same sized knife, but a barely thinner handle. Has a nice full tang laminated blade. I was concerned about this blade because the description made it seem like the blade was rather flexible, but I found it to be just as strong and stiff as the #1 blade. I love the look of the unfinished handle in the nice stamped leather sheath. The sheath is not nearly as red as in the pic on the website. Comes out a nice brown shade.

Gotta say nice knives for the value.

I'm actually a fan of the Mora knives as well. I tend to prefer the more military tupe of knives like the SOG and Ka-Bar brands, but a buddy of mine had a Mora with him on a day hike and it turned out to be a great all around knife. I know he paid under $20 for it too, which is far less than I have paid for some of my knives

Who knew! I've had the original Mora in my campin gear for years. I've never paid much for a knife and never had to. My Mora has lasted and kept me happy for many many campin seasons.

These knives don't strike me as the traditional "survival" knife. Do they hold up well with extreme use? Do you recommend one of these knives as a "first knife" purchase, or are they more geared towards a backup option?

The Mora is a great knife for all season and evirons! I got my first one when i was on a 3 day

R&R in Holland. Traded the crappy aviators knife out of my SV-2 for it. Much better steel and

I didn't have to worry about the sheath rotting. The version I got is the military model, with a

green handle and green plastic sheath.

Ok, well it looks like I'll have to be the resident Mora-hater. Personally, I'm not really a fan of the knives. Yes they are great quality but only because of the price. You can't buy a better utility knife for under $15. But I've found that they Moras just don't hold up like a Ka-bar, SOG, even Gerber. Just my $0.02.

I don't have any Mora knives and I haven't actually seen one in person so take my comments with a grain of salt, but I don't like the fact that there are no finger guards. The knives look like it would be east for your hand to slide down onto the blade part.
