water distillation and mineral leaching.... is this a real concern to anyone out there? I'd have no problem drinking distilled water for a week or a month, but I would be nervous about drinking it over the long haul.. has anyone here given this any thought? I'd love to hear some other perspectives

It is true that distilled water leaches the minerals from the water. However the minerals you could occur from water are very minimum and negligible.

We can always occur those minerals through our nutritious foods and there is no worry in having distilled water for a long time.

We have been drinking distilled fro over a year and its much better on the long run.
I have kidney problems and it allows me to drink water without complications.
distilled water leeching minerals is another urban legend.

"2. I heard that distilled water is leeches minerals from the body, is this true?

It is unsure where this myth came from, but it is not based upon any scientific fact and is literally a lie. It is presumed that it was a rumour started by an individual or company with vested interests (possibly a manufacturer of an alternative filter or purifier).

'Your question as to whether distilled water leaches minerals out of the body reflects another persistent myth. While pure water helps to remove minerals from the body that cells have eliminated or not used, it does not "leach" out minerals that have become part of your body's cell structure. Neither does distilled water cause your teeth to deteriorate, a false claim made by a filter manufacturer looking to boost sales. As far as acidity goes, distilled water is close to a neutral pH and has no effect on the body’s acid/base balance'. - Dr Andrew Weil

"Distilled water has an inherent quality. Acting almost like a magnet, it picks up rejected, discarded, and unusable minerals and, assisted by the blood and the lymph, carries them to the lungs and kidneys for elimination from the body. The statement that distilled water leaches minerals from the body has no basis in fact. It doesn't leach out minerals that have become part of the cell structure. It can't and won't. It collects only minerals that have already been rejected or excreted by the cells...To suggest that distilled water takes up minerals from foods so that the body derives no benefit from them is absurd." - Harvey & Marilyn Diamond, Fit for Life II: Living Health"

taken from the website that I provided in the link.

Personally I consider my body like a coffee pot. Too many minerals and you get kidney stones, bladder calculi!

There are many nutritious food stuff , where we can get minerals for our diet. Distilled water in most cases lag minerals, of course yes, this a matter of fact for which we have to worry.

Of course , when the water is being treated in factories for the purpose of distillation, the water tends to lose its minerals on the process. So we have to look for some other alternatives for fulfilling our mineral resources.

Minerals are itched away from distilled water during the processing stages, so the minerals can be acquired from other vital sources. Consult a good dietitian.

My father drank nothing but distilled water during the last year of his life as it lightened the load on his kidneys, while they were still functioning.

Distilled water is perfectly fine and, in fact, may improve your overall health in some circumstances. I don't know why people cling to so much bad information.

Take a vitamin if you are concerned about minerals. Personally, I don't see how pure water could be an issue with health, but hey- it's an idea at least. Multivitamins would be a good way around this possible issue.

I thought the main purpose behind distilling water was the removal of minerals. It isn't something that "tends" to happen, is it?
