I'm trying to organize items in my pack. Where can I get some reasonably-priced fine mesh bags (about the size of a shoebox) with drawstrings? I like the mesh bags because you can see through them and identify the contents of that particular back very quickly.

Why not re-use the mesh bags that potatoes come in? If it holds 12 lbs of potatoes, it should hold your gear.

You know...that's not a bad idea...I'd have to work out a way to close the bag and keep it closed...buy I could probably figure out some kind of a drawstring closure...Certainly would be cheap enough to use them...Thanks!

You can get them in places where they sell laundry supplies. They're intended for socks and undergarments when washing in bulk so they don't get all mixed up.You can also go for a a laundry bag,

Not a problem at all! I would guess that you could weave some 550 cord at the top of the bag, and just pull on the two loose ends to close/tie the bag. Let us know how it works out!

I put a lot of the stuff in my BOB in waterproof bags. I want to keep everything as dry as possible. It would really suck to not have dry clothing if in a situation where getting wet could not be avoided. I also don't want essential items to rot or corrode if they get wet.

Vacuum sealing would be the best way, I would imagine, to combine saving space, and also to keep your clothes dry?

When i was in the Army, I bought some bags (they were called oil skins, I bought these outside Ft Benning at one of the Ranger supply stores) that looked like a treated green plastic that I used in my rucksack. I am still using these same bags. What you do is take one that is about twice the size of what you are putting in it, squeeze the air out and twist the bag a couple of times as close to what's in it as possible, and fold it back over itself. I was in the swamps in the Florida panhandle, and everything in my ruck sack stayed dry, to include electronics. These things literally last for years and are easy to use. You can also twist and fold these back leaving as much air as possible in them and make your pack buoyant for when you need to wade or swim a stream or river.

They sound like something that I'd want to try out!

I have seen those for pretty cheap prices at our local army surplus store. You might want to search some online stores as well.
