I guess this could have been posted in the general discussion section as well, but it's probably more appropriate here in the homesteading section.

As a bit of background, my family has befriended an Amish couple over the years and we frequent Lancast County, Pennsylvania a handful of times a year. Recently, we took a trip out to Ohio to visit the Amish section out there. In Kidron, Ohio, there is a great store called Lehman's (http://www.lehmans.com). They carry a ton of products that fall under the category of prepping our self-sufficiency.

They cater to the Amish community so many of their products are non-electric and they have alot of farming gardening supplies as well. They also carry items for soap and candle making, etc.

Just thought I'd pass this along as it's a great store for prepping for emergencies of gettign gear for off the grid living.

cmlesq is 100% accurate about Lehmans. I live about 60 miles from there and have been there several times. For those who like military surplus gear also, Gene's surplus isn't too far away in Shelby, OH. This is towards the western side of the Ohio Amish area. Gene's has some of the widest selection of surplus gear I have ever seen in one store. They rival the big surplus stores you find outside the gates of many military installations. They also have a lot of other stuff that could be useful in a survival situation.

I too have been buying from lehman's for several years. Great service and a lot of good advice-get their yearly catalog, it explains a lot about non-electric tools or implements you might need. Especially look at their lighting section, one of the most useful instructionals i have seen on this subject.IMHO :)
