I just thought of this the other day and thought I'd share. My wife wears contacts and if SHTF, it wouldn't be long before she ran out of the disinfectant that she soaks the lenses in each night. So, I think it makes sense to buy a couple of pairs of the cheap glasses from your local pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, etc). That way she can see if she has to discontinue wearing her contacts for any reason. The glasses are usually cheap in the store less than $10 per pair but could be invaluable to have.

The glasses mentioned by cmlesq will work fine for some people. Those like me that have weird eyes may have to buy the more expensive prescription glasses. I am near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other. Off the shelf glasses don't work for me.
Fortunately, my eyes change very little as time passes, and my prescription stays constant. I have been saving my old glasses and keep them stashed in vehicles, my BOB and other handy places. Even if your prescription changes a little, your old glasses will be better than not being able to see at all.

I've never had to wear corrective lenses thankfully. I am however at the age where I need to hold the book a little farther from my eyes to get a clear picture. I have 3 pair of reading glasses from the drug store in the "medical supplies" tote. 1.50, 2.00, 2.50 so that as the vision gets worse the glasses get stronger.
