For those preparing...let's just say right now you had to leave wherever you are (home, work, etc) and could only grab one thing to take with you (other than what is already on your body)...On the way out the door you can grab one thing...

Question 1: What is in your pocket, right now?

Question 2: What would you grab...only one thing and don't go saying "duh, my survival kit" survival kits not allowed.

In pockets right now:
-keys (with small swiss knife)
-pocket knife with 3 different blades
-wallet (with all forms of payment and contact info)
-cell phone
What one thing would I grab on my way out that isn't my bugout bag while in a disaster situation(at home):
-copy of "Primitive Wilderness Living & Survival Skills" by John & Geri McPherson. Absolutly fantastic book that not only teaches you how to survive, but how to live in primitave situations.

Pockets: not much, cell phone, wallet, pocket knife, the usual stuff.

One thing to grab: rifle + ammo. In any disaster situation, the human element is often the most dangerous. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Fires- they are nothing compared to the looting and betrayal by your fellow man.

Course, both my vehicles do have water + food + small camping supplies, so that's already covered!

In my pocket I would have knife, wallet and a few vitamin pills and I would carry a loaded pistol in such disastrous times. However none of us can be sure what we might do on that instant, some people will just run out of their house.

Besides what I have on me (watch, wallet, cell phone, pocket knife, pistol (I carry concealed most of the time), I would bring extra money. In any disaster situation just short of economic collapse or revolution, extra cash will buy me anything else that I need. Granted, the prices on goods would be steep, but hey- I'm only allowed one thing, right?

I am at my final location for WTSHTF so that I am ready........but........If I were to be elsewhere I have a back pack in the back of my pick up with what I need for three days (food) plus water, light, heat, sleeping bag and so on........plus extra oil and a five gallons gas can.
