Country folk, sort of. We're about 6 miles from a town of 8000 although suburban sprawl is only about 2 miles away now. The nearest larger city of 40,000 is about 15 miles away.

Sounds like a nicely balanced location.

Gettin' ready to go country on ya. Nearest town is just a spot on the narrow highway with a gas station and a restaurant. No electrification in the region. If you want power, you have to create it yourself. Same with water. Land's cheap there: about $200/acre. It helps to know Spanish :-)

A small georgia town of about 3-4k people largest nearest metro is 30-40 min depending on which direction you go. have some dirt on a river in talbot county just in case. takes about 15 min to get there. 4 miles of dirt road nestled in a valley.

I'm in a small town next to a big city, Pikes Peak and the mountains are in my back yard and further to the west are the in laws in a very small town in the mountains. This would be my first bob destination unless something bad happened there but i doubt that because there really isnt anything major there. Not even a wal-mart.

I'm a the edge of a small town in Indiana. My main worry is that we're considered an "ideal small tourist town" and that baddies leaving the cities near us know how quaint we are. I mean, if I was them, this is where I'd want to come. Am looking for a remote retreat in this area, somewhere in the midst of the hills and farms where I grew up and know the terrain well.

When SHTF city folks will need friends because it will be civil unrest. The Bill that is being pushed through this weekend will damage this country more than it is already. The credit rating for the U.S.of A will go down causing interest rates to go up because of the debt incurred by this bill.
It wont matter where you are; you had better be prepared. I had an appointment with my doctor today (discussing bloodwork) He said he is scared. At the end of this month Medicare drops paying him 21% for the care he gives patients. What is he supposed to do? Free health care? He worked his tail off to get where he is and to make a good living, now he is just supposed to pay his taxes and give free health care. Sorry i dont agree. Appointments will not be in a week or two it will be months and that is if you have coverage because most will change immediately if the bill passes. The working class is taxed to the hilt anyway they wont stand much more. Who will pay for all this??

By the way i live on the outskirts of a large city. I have family up in an area where we can hunt and fish but too cold to grow anything until spring.

Our elected leaders have sold our country out! Remember that next time you vote.

My wife and I are trying to sell our modest city home. I bought a fixer-upper in the city when I was a bachelor. Well, it's fixed up now, but with the market the way it is, we'll be lucky if we can sell. It's been on the market for about a month now, and we've only had 2 showings (one was today). I'm confident we can bug-in for a spell, but it'll be tough if there's tons of civil unrest (and there likely will be in my neighborhood).

We hope to move out to a rural setting where we can grow some of our own food, and be more secure in our castle. Our current neighborhood is dangerous enough without TEOTWAWKI happening!

I guess you could say I'm in the inner suburbs of a smallish city, and very close to shops, medical care and work, but it's an old and forgotten area. Not nice enough to interest typical suburbanites, not city enough to interest city dwellers, not cheap enough to interest bargain hunters. Enough land for a good sized garden and orchard, not enough to seem like a homestead (which it isn't really.)

I have been pondering a bug out property a couple of hours outside of town, but the reality is I wouldn't be there enough to really keep it prepped. Just having a "vacation" cabin won't make a difference if it isn't also sustainable. Sometimes doing this by yourself is tough; there are just not enough free hours to go around.

We are somewhere between suburbian and country. If we went maybe a hour or two west we would be in the boon docks, if you know what I mean. I feel safe here though not close enough to any major cities to have any immediate danger if SHTF, and if we needed to seclude ourselves we wouldn't be to far away from doing so.

We just moved to smaller town (around 40,000), very near (1/2 mile) to the farms, fields, orchards. Still too many people for me, but much better than before.

If/When the SHTF big time, I'm planning on heading for the wilds with my son on our bicycles (I don't drive). I think that would be our be chance of survival, and if possible to continue heading as far north as possible ...
