I live in a rural area. Town is only 5 minutes down the hill though. I do feel safe where in live. I am a bit in the woods--not far but far enough.

Even when we going camping far in to the woods though---I feel safe. I would rather be in the woods than in a city.

I've just moved from a sleepy little town to the heart of the city (Austin TX) and I have to say I feel pretty safe around here... even if there were a big disaster I feel like I have better access to resources and medical care than if I were out in the country. Then again, I haven't yet learned how to provide those things for myself; maybe once I do, my answer'll change :)

I'm from the New York Suburbs. I feel like coming from the community I grew up in helps me appreciate nature. The NY culture just isn't for me, I'm looking forward to moving to Wyoming or California when I get out of college.

I am in rural Western Washington, outside a fairly big city but still in the country so to speak. I also live within walking distance to the border. It is a very beautiful area but it is a service based industry area nonetheless. If the freeway is closed off then almost all the people in my area would be hard pressed for supplies. We have a lot of little farms but how long would they last on an SHTF situation?

Into the woods of Oregon nine years ago from CA in order to get ready for what is starting to happen.......I am six miles from a tiny Micky Mouse of a one mule town (to small to be a one horse town) and I love it here because I have all the space that I need and don't even know those who live anywhere near me.

My problem in te future will be the druggies and drunks plus those on welfare once TSHTF, by not knowing anyone that means that anyone in my property is the enemy and with no rights or excuses to be here.

I live in the city about 10 minutes away from Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. I live in an apartment building on a low floor. Unfortunately funds don't allow me to move to the U.S. mainland. My main concerns would be preparing for hurricanes, tsunamis and terrorists attack. Of course it's good to prepare for any possible.

My wife and I live about 40 miles outside of Washinton, DC. Moved here ~26 years ago when I took a systems engineering job with a major defense contractor ... still here.

The area we live is mostly suburban but definetly a target-rich environment (Capital, Pentagon, Quantico Marine Base, Navy Yard, shipbuilding/fleet at Norfolk, yada-yada-yada). Other than an all out N-exchange, my biggest concern is the huge exodus of unprepared people, and major clogging of exit routes should we need to bug-out to property further south or to West Virginia where we maintain a trailer/camping facilities/etc. Probably my biggest fear is that I will hesitate bugging-out of the area ... not wanting to leave accumulated supplies I couldn't fit into my truck. Need to work on that, and this site will definetly help me in that area.

Glad to me you all ... Barry.

Moved from the middle of a big city to the suburbs to the country. Closest grocery store/town is 20 minutes. Closest big city is 40 minutes. I used to feel much safer- until I read One Second After and Lucifer's Hammer- and realized that we may be in the country, but we are still not far from a major highway and throngs of refugees (at best very needy people, at worst dangerous) from the city would still make their way here within a few days of a major disaster. I'm sure the whole extended family, who is not taking preparedness seriously, will be here- I dread having to turn away/fight off people.

Single and way out in BFE!!

I raise Chickens and will raise hogs starting next spring, fairly well prepped food wise but always adding more. Defenses are looking good need to ad some ammo and more reloading components. Have a hand pump for my well, had a huge garden I have so much stuff canned or frozen right now it is not even funny.

I love being in the country but makes my GHB pretty heavy I work 122 miles from home so if TSHTF while I am at work I am looking at a week plus to get home if I have to hoof it.

Country folk, sort of. We're about 6 miles from a town of 8000 although suburban sprawl is only about 2 miles away now. The nearest larger city of 40,000 is about 15 miles away.
