You could sit up in a tree and wait for your prey also, keeping quiet and not talking helps a lot.

There might be a good hunting show on the television channel Spike or A&E, does anyone watch hunting shows?

Not a hunter here. I grew up with my dad and brother hunting. I'm not big on deer meat. It's too gamey tasting. I know it's good for you- very little fat.
I wish I had bear meat, we live in the country and it's not unusual to see 3 or 4 bear run through our property a summer. Scary!

I hunt. I have hunted for many years
The game in my area is: Small Game - Rabbits, Squirrels, Pheasants, Quail, Turkey Migratory Birds - Dove, Geese, Ducks. Large Game - Deer Furbearing animals - Fox, Coyote, Muskrats, Beaver.
Each game takes different methods to hunt them. Some game uses a normal path and with patients the game will come within range. Some game never is in the same place or path so you must stalk it to hunt it.
The gear to hunt each can vary on they type of game and the laws in place. Typical hunting gear is breechloading firearm, muzzleloading firearm, air rifle, or an archery weapon. Traps are also used. Most small fast moving game requires the use of a shotshell, that is a shell containing many pellets and will cover a target so precise point accuracy is not needed. Shotshells have disadvantages that they hit the game in multiple locations therefore they waste more meat. Whenever possible the use of a rifle or bow is best.
Do not believe the gory stories of hunters coming back all bloodied - that is not the case. It is just the opposite. Hunters do everything possible from getting blood on themselves and their gear.
If you can cut up a whole fryer chicken from the store - you can clean wild game.
As was said in a previous post - wild game is very lean - this makes cooking it difficult. If you try to cook wild game like you cook meat from the store you will end up with a rubbery meat. You need to learn how to add fat (aka bacon) or steam in a slow cooker for many hours.
