-dont panic, start coughing repeatedly& very vigorously.
-a deep breath should be taken before each cough, the cough must be deep and prolonged as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.
-a breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again..
-deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating..the squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm...in this way heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

it may work if its not a serious one. I was befallen by one that made me hit the floor like a ton of bricks.

theer are two different type sof heart atatcks. One is m ajor infarct and other is in the angina family. This will work well for angina, however for infarct it won't.

In addition to what was posted above, take an aspirin. Aspirin is a blood thinner and works fairly quickly. This can hlep minimize damage to your heart. It can also be effective if you have a stroke.

I found that Aspirin has other aids as well. I had high blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels. I started taking an aspirin a day because I was worried about this affecting my heart. My cholesterol has improved and I don't take meds for it, and my blood pressure medicine was changed to something less strong as my blood pressure came down to borderline levels.

I was going to mention aspirin, too, so I'm glad the last poster did that. There's also awareness and understanding what is happening. When the signs start, heed them. Don't ignore that striking pain in your arm. It's not going to go away.

I am also happy with such awareness and being prepared for such health shocks..heart attacks arent for old people anymore..lots of stories of youth suffering heart attacks due to lots of stresses in their life..

This might not be too pleasant, but be sure you chew the aspirin so that it starts being absorbed by the mucous membranes leading tot he stomach.

It works faster that way.

It is also important not to get nervous and many people who thinks of being their end would most likely to lose their life. We have practiced avoiding and surviving heart attacks and to be honest heart attacks often caught as off guard.

A heart attack (a myocardial infarction, or MI) is the death of heart muscle, caused by a blockage in one of the coronary arteries. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot forms at the site of an atherosclerotic plaque in a coronary artery. The clot blocks the artery, and blood flow stops. The heart muscle being supplied by that artery immediately becomes starved for oxygen (i.e., the muscle becomes ischemic), and if blood flow is not restored within a few hours, the heart muscle dies!
Therefore, there are two good reasons everybody should know the most basic information about heart attacks. First, odds are very high that either you or someone you love will suffer from a heart attack during your lifetime. And second, whether you (or your loved one) survive that heart attack may depend on what you – and your doctors – do during the first few hours.

Hello. First of all this please accept my praise for a that wonderful idea, on how to survive in a heart attack alone. I'm curious about some things though. Why cough? What's the explanation for that? Coughing was not even in my least ideas to do when you're in a heart attack. Just curious.
