During dry, warm weather - for instance Summer - it can be hard to keep plants wet and with the moisture they need without wasting too much water.
Therefore there are some simple tips.
The first is to water if you use water at the right time of day - in the evening. During the day it is too warm and the water will simply evaporate rather than actually feed the plant.
Also use water slices, which are simple sponges that are soaked in water, put under the plant, then slow release their water over the period of a week or so.
This is a very efficient way of watering plants, means they require less attention, and just as importantly it uses a lot less water than frequent watering daily whereby most of the water is lost outside the plant root system anyway.

You can also use the pipe system to keep the soil wet. You just have to lay small pipes near the root of your plants and the water would slowly leak from the pipes in to the root of the plant and it would makes it wet. This is one of the farming techniques used in desert regions.

I've never heard of a water sponge. You actually put them in the ground under the plant? How often do you have to change them? I would think they would dry out quickly from the heat. Where can I buy one?
We water the garden every night- As soon as the sun goes down- and then check it in the morning prior to the sun coming out full blast. It's not good to water during direct sun light exposure.
