Set jars of beer or milk into the ground to attract slugs and snails which will fall in and be drowned, and if your compost heap is harbouring the pests add some poisonous rhubarb leaves to the pile to drive them away.
It also helps to leave a pile of dry leaves under a hedge to encourage hedgehogs who will soon make a meal of any slugs or snails they find. A small pond which will also encourage frogs has the same effect.

The beer and milk are great ideas, but will those two methods attract beneficial insects too? I'd hate to kill of indiscriminately, especially if some of the beneficial insects are involved with pollination!
Are there any birds that will eat snails? If so, how are they attracted?

Thanks for the information. Instead of using beer and milk we use a small amount of detergents and gentle spraying of these ones on places where snails inhabit would wipe them out. This is an easy method instead of using milk.

Could using plants that snails hate, around the edge of a garden, repel them, too?
I've that using plants is usually better than introducing new substances to rid a garden of pests.

We have tried the dish soap and water spray on the beetles in the garden- it does not work. They don't go away! I think they think we are just bathing them! Hey I'm ready to try anything- I'll put beer in the garden in cups. I hope I find a lot of dead critters in the cups!

I agree with you manojjonam10,its better to use detergents instead of spoiling some milk or beer.
