Buying food for your survival packs so keep in mind that you pick food which are meant for long term and those with a longer shelf life and flavor, Make the food at least palatable so people will eat.

Keep your food at the survival kit fresh by rotating the food to prevent them from going bad or useless. Make it a point that you stock foods that you eat so rotating it will be easier.

For preparation of meal use your choice of canned and dried foods. Pasta, spices, dried and canned meats, canned vegetables, dehydrated cheeses, powdered cheeses, milk, canned soups etc. You can get your fresh favorite foods at your local store.

You will find that some websites offer recipes and recipe books teaching you how to make up with your survival kit. Some sites plan your meals for you and also sell food ready to make to meals.

Foods that complement each other should be put together, Give yourself time to rehydrate dried foods. Carry a can opener and cookware if you are away from home.

Remember that at the time of an emergency you may need to have plenty of foods to get the vitamins, minerals, and the nutrients you need for survival.

Always learn some quick foods tips and tricks from a cooking show or a book, at times we would be the fastest cook if time demands.

It's beneficial to add vitamins to your storage list to supplement your food intake. Something with a long shelf-life like this http://www.nitro-pak.com/product_info.php?products_id=1022 or other vitamin(s) of choice.

One other thing you have to remember about the dates on these packages, most of them
are "Best By" dates and not true expiration dates. What this means to you is that the food
in the package may not taste as good and may not be as nutrisious BUT it IS still OK
to eat.
