Due to the instability of the honey market, and the declining bee population, I would strongly suggest that everyone get their honey supplies up before the prices go through the roof!

Remember Honey will last indefinitely, though if exposed to light, it will become darker and more strong tasting. Also if you store it for the long term in plastic, it will absorb odors of the things around it.(ask me how I know!)

You can get honey for less than $30.00 per gallon (a gallon of honey is like 12 pounds)

Well, I keep a lot of my food store in our cellar. I have a food storage room down that I keep most of my stuff in, One day I was cleaning in the cellar and I found a box of honey that was just sitting on dirt floor of the cellar ...I figure it had been there for YEARS. I put it in the food storage room.. The next bottle of honey I used tasted like... um, well cellar and home heating fuel. I tried heating it up to get rid of the flavor, but nope, it still tasted of cellar and home heating fuel.

Honey is a valuable addition on survival based food stuffs. They are highly nutritious and doesn't really degrades quickly. Further honey is thought to have medicinal values for treating snake bites.

Shawn,

Storing honey in glass jars is best. If you must store it in plastic, then simply keep it away from anything with a strong odor.

Thanks for the info about the odors...but honey is one of the best and easiest food products to preserve long-term.

If your going to eat anything in the wild, eat some honeycomb before you tamper with mushrooms, unless your an expert. Honey isn't going to disappear until we put down our cell phones. :P

Zamma~ you are just full of information on honey. I would have never thought that it could absorb the flavor of other things threw plastic.
You are definitely right about the costs of honey going to rise. Time to stock up now.
