Everyone should have a self defense plan in case of a home invasion. 1) Have a loaded handgun close at hand. (I normally have one with me at all times.) 2) Have a designated safe room. You do not need a panic room that is like a fortress. You need a room you can defend if someone enters uninvited. We use the master bedroom, and move the bed and dresser we have on wheels to create cover and concealment. 3) Have a loaded shotgun ready in your safe room. If someone enters uninvited, use it. 4) Make sure everyone knows where to go and what their role is.
There are many variables that come into play during a home invasion. Every plan will be different depending on the layout of the house. My children are grown, but we have grandchildren that stay with us frequently. Here is our plan, that goes into effect at the first sign of someone trying to break into our home.
1) My wife and grandchildren go to the Master Bedroom. I assist as needed. 2) I go to a room on the opposite side but slightly down the hall, where I can cover a stair landing with a large window that will highlight any intruder. 3) My wife moves the dresser on wheels in front of the door as I am getting into position. 4) While I keep watch, I listen for noises downstairs to see if intruders got in. My wife uses cell phone to call police. She lets police know we are armed and where we are located. Dispatcher ia also given a word for the cops to call out so we know it is clear, and no one is put in danger. 5) Once I hear the clear signal, I call out a different password to my wife and she opens the bedroom door. 6) We take care of police report.
If someone comes upstairs without a password, I shoot. If a bad guy gets by me, my wife has a shotgun and pistol. If they try to open the door without a password, she sends 5 deer slugs are shot through the door. If they continue to try to open the door, she has a pistol to unload as well.
I do not think burglars would get to my loved ones if burglars attacked us.

To be honest I am not sure what I would do during a home invasion. I do know that no one better mess with my family as I would go mental on the intruder.
