Which do you is best for survival trips. For me it depends on the situation and headlamps are very handy. I have an extremely small lantern that I hang in my room, if I'm using a tent then it will be flash light.

Versatile headlamps mainly meant for hikers,cave explorers, and night-time mechanics. Specialty infrared and ultraviolet headlamps for scientists and technicians. It depends on the profession , pal.

flashlights are more practical for above ground adventures or situations. Headlights/headlamps make well use for really dark areas where hands are needed to be free. Go ahead and try them out at the lake though, let me know how it goes. :)

If I had to pick between the two, I'd go with the flashlight.
