Pounding, thumping, throbbing headaches - they are best to avoid at all costs...We can avoid by sleeping the number of hours you need to feel rested and alert...and avoiding very cold food and beverages...what else ..?

Eating small meals often can help as well. This keeps your blood sugar from dropping too low which can cause these headaches.

If I feel a headache coming on I take something for it before it gets bad. This way it will normally go away before it gets bad.

Another cause of these headaches is caused by over exerting yourself. If you stop for a small rest often, you can avoid these headaches as well.

Get your teeth checked regularly. Periodic headaches may be linked to a dental problem..also ventilate your home and workplace..good ventialtion would allow you breathing fresh air with oxygen.

You can also try to reduce the stress in your life too. If it`s possible anyway. There are some things we can do nothing about, but there may be others that you can reduce.

Drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids a day to ward off dehydration and Take care of allergies and sinus infections..hopefully taking these actions would reduce or limit headaches.

Before rushing to get rid of a headache, it is wise to figure out its cause. While aspirin or Ibuprofen will work for tension headaches, they won't touch migraine pain. A truly intolerable headache might be caused by an aneurysm, and required medical attention!

I agree with all posts and with Daydreamer also, still home remedies and the previously mentioned tips of avoiding or reducing headaches wont harm.

Since the purpose of eating small meals often is to keep our blood sugar from dropping too low, is it okay to just eat foods that are don't add many blood sugar to us?

When exerting yourself you will need the blood sugar for energy. I am not saying to eat raw sugar, but starchy foods like pastas, beans and rice will add significantly to your blood sugar levels.

When I was in the Army I found that eating small meals often helped keep my energy levels up, I wasn't eating enough at a time to make me feel ill when I was exerting myself, and most important, several breaks to eat through the day helped keep me from feeling worn down on an extremely active day. Overall I felt much better than when I would try to eat 2 or 3 large meals. When hunting or out in the woods I try to carry many small easy to carry and prepare meals and eat like this even now.

I like to exercise quite a bit. I use the treadmill, exercise balls, and lift weights at least 5 times a week. Those days where I don't exercise I occasionally get headaches.
