Yup, When I get odd socks and underwear that is a little holie, I don't throw them away. Instead I just put them into my clothing storage. I figure in an emergency am I really going to care if one sock has a yellow strip and the other has a red stripe? I've been doing this for 10 years now and I have more than enough socks for the entire family, and I didn't have to go out and make a special purchase in order to have something to store.

I also keep many odd socks in my emergency supply kit in my car. They can be used for a lot of things, not just putting on feet!

I wouldnt use them in normal conditions..
But in emergency , who cares !
and also it might be used for other purposes too.

I make mittens from them. My hands get so cold that two pair of socks together make some great mittens. I also steal hubby's ones that are stretched out and sleeve one inside the other and make cushy hose socks. You can fill them up with rice or beans and some lavender and make eye packs, make sock dolls (of course) split them and sew them together and make some great windshield wipers.

Of course, who cares if it is an emergency situation, first of all we wont have time to make choices indeed, anything we find at such critical situations is going to be divine to our eyes.

This was something we did last night, draft dodgers. Our floors have large holes in them, where iots rotting out. The door doesn't seal very well. we filled old socks with pine cones and saw dust and sand and made draft dodgers! Old holey underwear and old socks can also be used for fill for a pillow.
Not just in an emergency situation. What about a windshield mop?

thinking about everything for daily use too makes old useful until the very end.
