I have a Buck model 110 that I have been carrying since 1982. I bought it when I got out of basic training. This knife has been all over the world with me and is like a trusted friend. I have never owned or used a knife that keeps an edge like this one does, and I use it for everything. These knives are still available and I recommend one to anyone who has a need for a knife.

If you are looking for a good multi purpose locking folder, check out the Victorinox , Hunter model.

It has a locking main blade, a large saw blade, a smal serrated blade, bottle/can opener/small

straight slot screw, phillips screwdriver and the usual toothpick and tweezers.

Not sure if it's out of your price range or not, but the Benchmade mini griptilian is a fantastic folder.

Benchmade knives combine distinctive artisan quality of a custom blade with laser precision to create spacing tolerances as low as .0005", less than 1/16th the thickness of a human hair. The patented AXIS™ mechanism of the Griptillian locks the blade in place with incomparable smoothness and unsurpassed stability. Omega-style springs on both sides of the handle secure the locking bar to prevent accidental closing. The D2 Tool steel blade hardened to 57-60 Rockwell holds a razor-like edge and is treated with a BK1® coating to prevent rust and corrosion. And for a solid grip in wet or dry conditions alike, the palm-contoured handle has a swelled base and molded texture for slip resistance. An Ambidextrous thumb stud facilitates fast, one-handed opening. It also has a reversible steel carry clip.

Blade length: 3.45".
Closed length: 4.62".
Weight: 3.25 ounces.
Colors: Black, Olive.
Available: Plain or Semi-serrated.

I think I got mine from Cabelas. They're selling them now for $89.

I've had pretty good luck with my Kershaw 1550ST Blackout from Walmart. It's a nice knife that has a "Speed-Safe" torsion bar mechanism that can deploy the blade in an instant.

It's also nice to buy a product that is made in America!

Also, be aware some areas in the country have laws against carry knives that can be considered switch blades.
