So I was vacationing with my family this past week. On our way home we were driving on Route 95 North in Connecticut, we ran into an interesting situation. While traveling along at about 70 mph, the van in front of us quickly swerved to the right. This left no time for my to avoid what was lying in the middle of the road - an aluminum extension ladder. The ladder was was laying right across the travel lane. Thankfully there was no damage to my Jeep, though the check engine light did come on. I'm having it checked out tomorrow. My wife drives one of those eco-friendly Smart cars. We would have been in serious trouble if we hit the ladder in that car since its so low to the ground.

You just never know when things will change on the highway.

A few years back I was driving my van in I-25. Traffic was almost bumper to bumper and moving at abou 72 MPH. All of a sudden, traffic came to a halt.

Luckily. each driver around me had some idea what to do.

It was as if the whole thing had been choreographed. Every other vehicle aimed right, the other half aimed left toward the median. Where there could have been a 200 vehicle pile up, you didn't even hear screeching tires.

It was amazing.

I never want to do it again.

About a month ago we were vacationing in the Southern states. We were coming into Chattanooga, TN and were stuck in middle lane. There was a metal bar in the lane I could not avoid without swerving into another vehicle. It took out my left rear tire at 70 MPH. I was able to keep control of the car and managed to get to the side of the road with no accident, but the ol heart sure was racing.

It just shows how fast something can happen and ruin your day or more.

Some scary stories there! One of my biggest fears is getting into a severe accident with my little ones in the car. :o

Scary! You definitely want to follow that 2-second rule. When we lived in ATL, we were amazed by the things that seriously hurt or killed people on I-75. People had washing machines bounce out of the backs of pickup trucks and wipe people out on the highway.
