Selecting the right wilderness survival gear is important to have a safe wilderness trip. However, remember your most important survival gear is your brain! Mental preparedness, knowledge and skills are a most. Without that, nothing else really matters.

What gear you will take is largely a matter of personal taste and type of wilderness trip. Tailor your equipment to the environment you will experience. Some items, such as map, compass, knife and survival kit are vital. These vital items you should carry on your person.

Include a first aid kit in addition to your basic camping gear. Test your equipment prior to departure. Make sure you understand how to use your equipment and that it’s working properly.

Mind and intelligence is the key. There is a high possibility that we may mess up everything during the emergency situation just because we are nervous. I had these type of experience twice and nowadays I am much prepared mentally to face any risky situations.
