Usually a household emergency happens at the worse time. The mortgage is due, there is no groceries in the house or my favorite: It's Wednesday and you don't get paid until Friday.

Do you have money put aside just in case something breaks down in your house?--like pipes burst, hot water tank stops working, furnance stops heating, etc.

I try to keep money aside, but it doesn't always happen. It really stinks when something happens and we have to call everybody we know to see if we can borrow money. I hate that feeling.

Do you do this? or are you one of the smart ones that puts money aside?

We did have money put aside, but then my hubby lost his job. Now he finally got another one but it`s not enough to pay the bills. We have to use our savings. The problem is we have been doing this for so long now we are almost out of money. We got turned down for food stamps too. We have to rely on my mom and my sister for food. I hate it!

I wish but it's a struggle just to get by. We're trying but stockpiling right now just isn't feasible for us.

I am sorry to hear that Hoy! I feel for you. I know what it is like to have to watch every penny you have.

I have changed saved. Not enough for a major problem though.

Don't you love how the experts tell us to pay ourselves first before we pay our bill collectors? I don't think our bill collectors would like to hear: "I'm sorry, I can't pay you this week cus I have to pay myself before you."

It's not easy--that is for sure.

I do. I am a firm believer that you should have at least 6 months of bills saved up. So 6 months of mortgage, and all big expenses. I have this.
I try not to dip into my savings account unless it's something big- like the down payment on our house and I paid 1/2 of my car up front.
I've been fortunate enough to not have to live paycheck to paycheck for a while now. There was a time when I was first out of college, no job, and a single mom- that I struggled. Thankfully my parents helped me through.

I believe in having enough financial funds to stay off from effects of any household emergency. It is better that people starts saving their money for emergency purposes. It is always better to be on the safer side rather than cursing ourselves after an unfortunate incident.

I have never been able to save a lot of money to cover bills for several months. It seems like every time I get money saved, an emergency happens and we have to scramble. I have been spending money on supplies and equipment to cover emergencies. I figure my stores are to help with this. If I lose my job and can't get enough from unemployment to cover bills and food, my emergency supplies can be used to supplement our food. I still try to save some money as well.
