I think it depends on the state laws where you reside in. On most cases you won't be allowed to use firearms because the authorities think that you are hunting animals that are being legally protected. That is the reason why not many people are allowed to have firearms while they are in wilderness.

In Kentucky, as long as it is carried in plain sight on your own land . . . it's legal. If you have a hunting licencse and it's hunting season, the appropriate weapon for the season is legal on state land.

In Texas, as long as you have a carry permit, OR you have it in plain sight in a wilderness situation . . . it's legal.

In both states, if you've been convicted of a felony . . . then that right is removed in most circumstances.

Of course, that does NOT stop the police having probable cause for arrest (which a firearm automatically gives them) it just stops a conviction.

In California . . . no firearm at any time, other than legally hunting with written permission from the land owner. Of course, in rural areas this is held looser.

Most states allow people to carry firearms. I have my Ohio Concealed Handgun License along with a Pennsylvania non resident license. I am good to carry in 36 states. The big trick is to know the laws of the state you are in, as well as any states that you travel to. Always know the carry and transport laws and you will be fine. I carry a firearm daily.

Again it depends what state your in . Here in California the law still states that you have the right to carry open holster, which means unloaded on the hip, whould I do it in a city of any size, nope, however the law also states that if your in an unicorporated area you can carry open holster and even loaded. Now this all being said, federal law states as long as your in a wilderness area you can carry except in national parks which is being tossed also so in the end it depends where your at and how big of a pain the local police are.

In fact, in California, if you carried openly in the bay area you would be arrested for brandishing.

Very true. The Red Bay Area is very restrictive on what they allow and to be honest you would never beat them in court, however the law is on your side just dont test it, you will loose. The Bay area is one of the most liberal areas in the world that is one of the biggest enimies of the Constitution, so to set the standard by them is odd at best. Your best bet is to move pard.

Sad state of affairs when the courts won't uphold the law.

No offense guys ... California is a beautiful state with a wide variety of people, history, terrain and scenery ... but there are some areas that the San Andreas could take for all I care.

This is a good link for gun law resources:

http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/

I think you can carry in a park if your state permits and you have a CCH:

You'll definitely have to research this issue well and call any park you might consider carrying a weapon in.

Here is another great source for state gun laws. http://www.handgunlaw.us

Gatordude is correct to a point about the National Park carry. Be warned that this does not go into effect until February, and if I remember correctly it will be on the tenth. Be carefull about where you carry in National Parks when this goes into effect. You will not be able to carry in most of the buildings. Buildings used primarily as restrooms or picnic shelters are OK. Park offices, museums and other similar buildings are not. You will also have to follow the laws for the State you are in. The laws will be the same as for the rest of the State. If your license to carry isn't recognized by the State you are visiting, you will not be able to carry.

Now if we ever have a SHTF situation, I will carry everywhere I have to go. All bets would be off then.
