Nice site with viewable videos showing bushcraft and survival techniques like using bowdrills, cordage making, fire starting, knives, knots, shelter making, trapping, etc ... http://www.azbushcraft.com/.

Nice site there. Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll finally figure out how to start a fire with a bow & drill...

I am not going to poh poh any site or book, but without hands on training, it can be quite frustrating to
learn these bush skills properly and in a timely manner. A good instructor can correct any mistakes
you are making in real time making the learning experience much more rewarding.

True statement, but sometimes viewing the videos can spark an interest in learning new skills, help identify areas they had not previously considered, or initiate Q&A discussion with knowledgeable members on this site ... from which everyone can learn and benefit.

I'll grant you that, but I have run into so many rambo wannabes who thought they knew it all
and couldn't start a fire if their life depened on it. I don't even bother with matches anymore
mostly because waterproof matches, aren't!. Birch bark, shaved cedar, tampons, cottonballs w/
vaseline and a good fire steel work much better.
I would hope that they would try these skills, realize their shortcommings and then get some
hands on training. I would much rather they do that than me reading about their death in the paper.

I hear you ... I wouldn't have posted the link if I thought the individual was unsafe/unqualified. Besides, it never hurts to know a wide variety of skills, whether or not you find yourself in a situation to apply them.

Another great source for info is the "Naked Into The Wilderness" series by the McPherson couple.
Lots of VERY good pictures and easy to follow directions.
I first discovered their work in a set of pamphlets. These have now been collated into at least 3 volumes.
These are NOT "survival" books.
These are wilderness LIVING books.
"Little grass shack" as the song goes. Pottery, stone tools, fire makeing, cordage, brain tan, primitive bow, atlatl, cooking on rocks.
