Diatomaceous Earth

I've been doing a lot of research on DE for a few weeks now. It's a completely organic and very versatile product.
Diatomaceous Earth is made up of the silicate shells of microscopic sea creatures called diatoms. It can be dusted or sprayed as a control for most leaf eating insects and is used to deter slugs and snails.
Natural DE makes a very effective natural insecticide. The insecticidal quality of DE is due to the razor sharp edges of the diatom remains. When DE comes in contact with the insects, the sharp edges lacerate the bugs' waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery DE absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration. Said more simply, DE kills insects by drying then up.

It can be used as a wormer for pets, and livestock.
Is effective as insect control in your stored grains.
Can be dusted on the garden plants for insect control.
Cleans out the human digestive system.
Has trace minerals that benefit the bones and joints.

For anyone that's interested, here are a few links for your reading enjoyment.

I have a lot of respect for the girl that writes this blog. She knows her stuff.

Have you started using it yet? We have an insect problem around the house, and I'm considering using it for my own health benefits. Earthworkshealth.com seems to be the best deal going.

We have been using it as a wormer for all the smaller animals; goats, chickens, dogs and cats. I take a teaspoon or two a week to clean my system out.
Is it working? For humans; honestly, I don't know.
Goats need to be wormed after kidding. We haven't used the Ivermectin ( a commercial wormer) on any of them this year and they appear to be in very good shape. Our 1 buck was getting rather mangy looking and the vet told us to worm him. After about 4 weeks his coat is looking much better so we're calling it a success. We're going to make it a monthly regiment now to keep them healthy.
On the garden? Not as effective as I would have hoped. I dusted the potatoes to eliminate the potato beetles and after 2 weeks I can't really see a population reduction. I'm going back to the neem oil. I know that works well.
