I'm new to the board, but not to hiking and camping. I was wondering if people out there had any survival stories or experiences that they would like to share. We often time learn from our mistakes, so this would be a great exercise to help one another learn for our own experiences.

If you are going into the woods always, always carry a map and compass and know how to use it. I learned the hard way. I got lost and luckily other people camping helped us out.

i was camping with my friend , and we got lost at night.
we just had 2 torchlights.
we used only 1 at time.
we didnt want to camp in area we didnt know.
so we kept walking and walking.
it was scary , exciting and memorable..
we walked for hours till we hit a small village.
we didnt realise how much we walked in panicky situation !

we stayed at village headman's place at the night.
By the way this was in India...

We were hiking Rainbow Falls trail and it took longer to get up there than we had thought. We got there we climbed in the falls and under the falls and started back down. It was getting dark and the hemlock groves make dusk go pitch. As we were walking I tripped over a rot and landed in the mud. I got up and then about 1/2 mile my vision went and i tripped again. So sat there crying and rubbing my ankle. Hubby has spotted a bear just above us. He quietly said are you hurt, I said no, do you need me ot carry you, i said no, and in avery low voice he said then get up before you become bearfood.
Hence my hiking name Bearfood! We checked into the ranger station on the way back and they said there were not only ber sitings at Rainbow but some the new wolves they released were in that area as well.

bearfood
